Behind the Daily Mirror's hate-America campaign
Gerard Jackson
Piers Morgan, editor of the British tabloid the Daily Mirror, has been running an anti-American hate campaign that is motivated by his and Pilger's pathological hatred of America.
Each vicious lying screed from this pair resemble Der Stuermer in its venomous loathing of America and its pathological hatred of Bush. That Morgan of the "City Slicker scandal" should take on the persona of a latter day Julius Streicher has much to do with hiring the demented John Pilger who still acts as a mouthpiece for the brutal Hanoi regime.
In a trade (I hesitate to call journalism a profession) not known for having an abundance of intellects, it is not that surprising that Piers "The Moron" Morgan, as he is known in Fleet Street, should be taken in by an intellectual mountebank like Pilger.
At one time one could point to leftwing ideology to explain Pilger's anti-American ravings. But even ideologues need to rationalise their arguments and beliefs when faced by reality. Pilger's demented fantasies, however, suggest that his ideology has been replaced by a diseased state of mind.
His response to the 9/11 atrocity is a good example of what I mean; According to this self-anointed paragon of journalistic virtue:
"If the attacks on America have their source in the Islamic world, who can be surprised? … Far from being the terrorists of the world, the Islamic peoples have been its victims — that is, the victims of American fundamentalism, whose power, in all its forms, military, strategic and economic, is the greatest source of terrorism on earth."
To Pilger and the ethically challenged Morgan America is the terrorist state and al Qaeda, Hamas, the Taliban and Saddam, for whom this morally corrupt pair shills, are the real victims. Saddam has women publicly beheaded, children tortured, youngsters crucified, women officially raped, men blinded, tongues torn out, etc, and this pair conclude that America is the real terrorist.
In This is the cost of Blairs 'moral' war (Daily Mirror 13/3) Pilger was at his most hysterical. Morgan kindly published pictures of children allegedly killed by the 1993 bombing ordered by Clinton.
We shall ignore the fact that the Mirror does not publish pictures of Saddam's countless victims and focus on the fact that the 1993 US attack was aimed at military targets and was provoked by Saddam's attempt to assassinate the former president Bush. That civilians died is regrettable. That Saddam brought about their deaths is indisputable to anyone who respects the truth.
Not even Saddam's allies in the peace movement deny his cruelty. They just refuse to discuss it in case it turns public opinion in favour of the war. This attitude exposes their contempt for Iraqis and makes them complicit in Saddam's crimes. But the repulsive Pilger and Piers Morgan go further. They even deny that Saddam has torture chambers. That this is a horrible insult to the countless numbers who have passed through Saddam's chambers of horrors is apparently something that will not keep Morgan and Pilger awake at night.
Pilger's fevered imagination has conjured up a situation in which the actions of American and British security agencies will use "black propaganda". 'There will be the "discovery of Saddam's secret arsenal," probably in the basement of one his palaces. This will be accompanied by the "discovery" of gruesome evidence of Saddam's oppression. '
So according to Pilger British and American intelligence has already faked evidence of Saddam's weapons programs and the torture of opponents. What is the difference between this insanity and that of those who claim the Nazi gas ovens are fakes built by the allies to discredit Adolf Hitler?
Pilger claims he has experience of this from American activities in Vietnam. He would, wouldn't he? After all, Pilger was nothing but a Hanoi mouthpiece from the first day he set foot on South Vietnamese soil.
It is well documented that Hanoi had been infiltrating troops into the South from 1959. But Mr Integrity says that Ralph McGehee, a senior CIA officer, told him this was not true and that when he was a CIA operative in Vietnam he helped plant this false information.
Only a fanatic or a complete idiot would be stupid enough to now claim that there were no communist troops in the South until after American Marines landed. I will let people judge which one McGehee is. This is the same joker who argues that "the 1996 Thrips Palmi infestation in the Province of Matanzas" was an act of bio-warfare by the US against Cuba. He also makes the fantastic claim that the US has been waging biological warfare against Cuba since 1959 and that just about every outbreak of infestation in Cuba is the ghastly work of the CIA.
McGehee's claims of bio-warfare are so self-evidently absurd that even Pilger will not quote them. Equally absurd is is McGehee's slavish devotion to the murderous Castro. And this is the idiot that Pilger chooses to quote in defence of his own libellous statement that American and British intelligence have made preparations to build fake torture chambers as part of a coordinated plan to justify the invasion by discrediting Saddam.
Not that Pilger has any time for Saddam. No sireee. He has only the best interests of the Iraqi people at heart and that is why he does not want to see them "strangled, attacked, poisoned and occupied by another variety of dictator."
That's right. Bush and Blair are just as bad as Saddam, just "another variety of dictator" ready to enslave Iraq just as they enslaved Afghanistan. (By now readers should understand why Piers Morgan is called "The Moron").
Lying seems to come naturally to Pilger. In the same article he states that during the Stalinist controlled phoney peace march of February 15 "as many as 7,000 Iraqis and Kurds marched. Iraqi families stood on the roadside holding up home-made placards: 'Thank you for supporting my people.'"
Dr B Khalaf, a london-based neurologist, said of the march: "But just ask yourselves [peace marchers] why, out of about 500,000 Iraqis in Britain, you will not find even 1,000 of them participating tomorrow? Your anti-war campaign has become mass hysteria and you are no longer able to see things properly."
Those with any sense will place their trust in Dr Khalaf, especially when they learn that Pilger's Stalinist friends who organised the rally banned anti-Saddam signs.
Think about that for a moment. These totalitarian goons banned anti-Saddam signs and then Pilger used the absence of these signs as evidence that the Iraqi people do not want liberation by American and British troops.
Dr Khalaf's appeal, the one that Morgan and Pilger ignored.
